Canadian Transit & Weather Updates – October 30, 2024

BRITISH COLUMBIA

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for – Haines Road – Haines Junction to Pleasant Camp and South Klondike Highway – Carcross to White Pass.  10-20cm expected.  

A Pacific frontal system approaching Vancouver Island will produce strong southeasterly winds. The strong winds will develop this morning then ease this afternoon when the front weakens. Southeast 70 km/h gusting to 90 over exposed coastal areas

MANITOBA

Churchill under Wind Warning – up to 90 km/h of northwest winds expected to begin this afternoon. Utility outages may occur.

ONTARIO

Rainfall Warning in effect for Sault Ste Marie and surrounding regions – ECC has advised “Total rainfall amounts near 60 mm are expected, with slightly higher amounts possible in embedded thunderstorms. Rain will taper and transition to scattered showers or flurries Thursday night into Friday morning.”

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for northern portions of northeastern regions. ECC has concluded – “Snow may be mixed with ice pellets or freezing rain at times Thursday afternoon and evening, particularly for areas from Wawa to Timmins. Snow is expected to taper to flurries Friday morning. Total snowfall amounts are fairly uncertain, however, snowfall amounts near 10 cm are possible.”

NEWFOUNDLAND / LABRADOR

Freezing Rain Warning in effect for Labrador City and Wabush for approximately 5 hours this afternoon.  The Warning from ECC has stated – ” Freezing rain will be preceded by a period of snow or ice pellets and surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.”
